Decidedly Jazz Danceworks (DJD)
Decidedly Jazz Danceworks was founded in 1984 with mission to preserve, promote and evolve the spirit and traditions of jazz. The core aesthetic of DJD’s work is African-rooted, and swing-based with Jazz music at its heart. Our founders and artists are progressive historians, innovating boldly while maintaining a respectful and loving eye on the roots of jazz. DJD often performs with live music and always presents riveting theatrical events. DJD has toured extensively across Canada, to Cuba, Chicago, Japan, and The Turks and Caicos Islands.
Beyond our season of performances and touring, DJD’s experts offer classes in jazz and related forms at The School of Decidedly Jazz, and extended awareness through outreach activities locally, nationally and internationally. Our artists have shared our unique vision across Canada, in the United States including at The School at Jacob's Pillow, in Europe, Africa and the Caribbean.
